The silver screen often teaches us the harshest truths. Its flickering images warn against disregarding wise counsel. Driven by our insatiable curiosity and thirst for discovery, we continuously push the boundaries with reckless abandon, weaving our harrowing stories of ruin and folly. In Alien Romulus, these eternal themes are brought to life again, reminding us of the dangers lurking beyond the threshold.

Operation Resuscitation

The highly anticipated continuation of the Alien franchise, Romulus, takes audiences on a heart-pounding journey through space and into terror. Led by a team driven by desperation and desire to savage for survival and aided by a sophisticated AI, they embark on a self-imposed mission that propels them into a world of unimaginable horrors. Only through AI’s data sharing can they hope to grasp the true extent of the haunting reality unfolding before them. But will their efforts halt the ever-evolving nightmare? The answer is both unsettling and terrifying.

The Drag  Before the Uplift

The first half hour drags on. The movie quickly gains momentum. This kind of film is soaked in tension, provoking disgust, frustration, and unheard arguments between the viewer and the characters, tempting you to end your viewing out of sheer frustration. In other words, this sci-fi thriller delivers precisely what such a feature promises—intensified moments and adrenaline-pumping excitement.

This film is a masterful homage to the original, capturing raw suspense and unease. It pays tribute to the elements that made the original a classic while also introducing some fresh and exciting aspects. Talented actors, such as David Jonnson, deliver phenomenal performances. His portrayal of an advanced yet conflicted AI, teetering between humanity and machinery with glimpses of empathy and morality, is truly captivating. The incorporation of the late Ian Holmes’ iconic vocals adds another layer of brilliance to this science fiction masterpiece.

There’s Always Something

While this movie certainly has its strengths, it also has some frustrating shortcomings. One of the main issues is the lack of clear rules in this fictional world. Many discussions have arisen about the universality of these rules and how they dictate the life cycles of the creatures in this story. The bizarre reproduction method and sudden growth of the final creature only add to the confusion without proper justification. Without well-defined rules, the initial concept loses its impact and becomes unnecessarily complicated. It is better to dismiss everything entirely and enjoy it for what it is.
