The Goods

“Coyotl: Hero and Beast,” was released in February 2025 and was created by Genaro Quiroga. The series consists of four episodes, each with a runtime of about 60 minutes. It features exceptional world-building and top-tier casting. The setup, inciting incident, and call to action are clearly delineated, further strengthening the narrative.

The fantasy and mystical elements that combine to create “Coyotl: Man and Beast,” are deserving of praise. Authenticity is the engine that keeps the narrative engaging. For a story of this nature to succeed,  the more legitimate it is seen, the better. And in “Coyotl: Hero and Beast.” the cast, narrative, and, most importantly, the shooting location, Durango, beautifully align to achieve this. The creative team appears to have executed these elements flawlessly. This isn’t too unexpected for this work. Two of the directors involved are Julián de Tavira, known for “Like Water for Chocolate,” and Batan Silva, recognized for “The Boys.” They have great success with those projects.

Tie-Ins

Coyotl, the Spanish term for Coyote. Coyote is deeply rooted in Mesoamerican folklore. As Mexicolore explains,

“To the Aztecs, the coyote embodied the ferocity of a warrior plunging into battle.”

So the idea of a story with a man who would be imbued with the power of  what the Aztec’s believe was fierce and unyielding, making sense. This connection to folklore not only augments the narrative of this featured series, but also sediments it.

The Power of Perspective

Another remarkable aspect of this series is its distinctiveness. As noted by Elsiglodedurango, this series differentiates itself by providing a fresh perspective: audiences experience the horror through the eyes of the villain. Who doesn’t love a different angle or perspective?

So for those in search of an original series that is both captivating and powerful, tune into Max and watch “Coyotl:  Beast and Hero.”
